new manifesto
March 11, 2009
The world has entered an era of decay. The society that we once knew and loved has been washed away by a tide of moral despair.
We no longer feel safe on our streets, in our workplaces or in our homes.
It is not the wrong doing of one but the wrong doing of many that has brought this upon us. Citizens – your previous government has failed you and it is time to take action. The time to be liberal and weak is long gone.
Throughout history it has been freedom, and our inherent self-importance that results in the abuse of freedom that has caused pain for so many. History repeats itself like a broken record with this cause and effect; an individual wants more, and he seeks to take it. The evidence is right here before our eyes! As poverty rises, as destruction piles up, as murder and rape become the cornerstones of our ‘community’, is there any hope of redemption in the current ‘democracy’ of our state? Despite every good intention, this promise of freedom and equality by the means of freedom for all has given you false hope.
We, The State of National Security, feel the need to regulate our citizens’ actions, because, left to themselves, the population put each other in harm’s way. All possibility of risk has now been eliminated from public life. Our citizens are now able to live a life free of fear and suffering.
Our offers are true and our vision is pure. Our intentions offer the stability and promise of new opportunities. No man, woman or child will be left behind! We are the shining sword behind a new age of grandeur…
We are your safety.

transport logos
March 10, 2009
so as well as that logo that was A4 format – probably good for posters, leaflet fronts, map fronts etc – i made a smaller one that’d be good for letterheads, bottom of campaign posters i don’t really know.. maybe u guys have some ideas. dunno whether to have that blue border to the logo (that is no matter how hard i try still managing to look a bit like a snowflake oh dear) or just plain black and white.
some new stuff i done today…
March 9, 2009
right after two days of pure religious research i came up with some new ideas keeping in mind what we have already done and the typeface we have chosen. These are posters which i knocked together on illustrator (it was actually quite painful but i got there and learnt a lot!) they are nowhere near done or anything and i know there are some spelling mistakes which for some reason i couldn’t edit out because of my lack of illustrator knowledge but i thought i should put them on here to let you guys no what route i might be going down.
after looking at loads of religious images from different religions there was this continuos image of light shining down on people creating a god like saintly image particularly when jesus is in the frame. i want to use something like this in my final images as it easy to relate to…… the text on the all the pieces are controversial quotes from the bible which i thought worked quite well with the message – religion causes conflict.
I have tried out different looks with colours and stuff would be good to get some feedback on what people think work best or if you think it doesn’t work at all? Also i modernised the typeface making it less 1940′s propaganda like by filling in the gaps in the letters which i really like.

Developing the Campaign
March 5, 2009
These are 4 posters that I’ve been developing. From feedback and advice I’ve tried simplying the designs and make them more consistent. Greg aslo said to refine the language and text. I reckon that having type the dominate feature adds to the sense of authority and dictatorship. I’ve tried to be a lot more commanding with the wording to get the feel of power and enforcement upon the population. In these designs I’ve been working in a grid template which I felt really helped.
I’ve also reduced the imagery to black and white photos and graphic shapes.
A simple thing like adding a full stop to the end of every sentence made it more commanding and direct. Short punchy wording.
Here i used the red figure to comminicate danger and threat. I tried also to create an image of unity and collectivism.
Included some statistics in this one in the attempt to give it more gravitas.
Still need to update the Department of Health logo. Not right atm
What do people think?

some research after the feedback today
March 2, 2009
After a chat with jim after the crit today ,we thought that all of us following one theme or style on all department campaigns would be the best way to go. We weren’t sure what angle to look at as lots were discussed but eventually we thought that looking at actual health and safety signs and graphics would work in communicating to the public in a way they can relate to. We could make up our own symbals to go with our new safety laws. Obviously we don’t want to copy existing imagery but using the health and safety style people will see it and immediatly be clear on our main aim…to be as SAFE as possible. I think this could work quite well, but it is up for debate, i guess we can talk more tomorrow in the tutorial.
I have got some health and safety signage here and an artists interpretation called Ryan McGinness.
Health and Safety Signage
March 2, 2009
These are 3 main catergories of health and safety signs – mandatory (blue) show actions that must be carried out, prohibition (red) circle with a line through indicatinng something is not permitted, and hazard (usually yellow or orange) to warn of dangers.
I tried to get some examples of ones which illustrate nanny states aswel.
Found a load of images here aswel
